dbShards Enterprise Edition provides a cost effective solution to database scalability within the enterprise. dbShards Enterprise Edition allows databases to be scaled across a number of commodity database servers with little impact to existing applications and infrastructure. Data is sharded according to a shard key such as a customer ID so that rows for sharded tables are horizontally partitioned across separate database instances. A key benefit of dbShards compared to other sharding solutions is that existing applications require few modifications because the dbShards driver provides an abstraction layer, making the sharded databases appear as a single database to the application.
